AOC Maleema Korina
Australia's first Obedience Champion

Prior to 1 January, 2000, a Tracking Dog Excellent (TDX) and Utility Dog (UD) title were required for an Obedience Champion Title (AOC). The title was placed before the name of the dog as are all champion titles whether conformation or performance.

From 1 January 2000, new obedience and tracking rules were applied and the new title of Tracking Champion became available. From this date, dogs which had gained their UD title and then obtained five further UD passes of 185 points or more and three first places with a qualifying score under at least two different judges could apply for their Obedience Champion. The initias OC instead of AOC were placed before the dogs name to distinguish between the Champion title being awarded pre or post 1/1/00. Tracking titles are no longer be required to become an Obedience Champion.

From July 2006, the rules ceased to require dogs to take first place at trials but rather that they achieve a further five qualifying scores of 185 or better, under at least three different judges, subsequent to attaining their UD title. For a period of 12 months from the introduction of the new rules, dogs that had passes towards their OC continued under the former rules. To distinguish titles gained under these new rulings the O Ch abbreviation is now used.

The title of Dual Champion and Triple Champion, which would be abbreviated as Dual Ch (O) or Triple Ch (O)(T) is only open to pedigreed, registered dogs who obtain the title of conformation Champion plus one or two other Champion titles respectively.

Utility Dog Excellent (UDX)

Having achieved UD level the dog must gain an additional 3 qualifying scores of 170 points or more by completing: Seek Back with Decoy Article (30pts), Positions in Motion (40pts), Scent Discrimination (Judge's scent) (30pts), Directed Send Away and Recall (30pts), Distance Control (30pts), Multiple Retrieve (30pts), Temperament Test (10pts).

Utility Dog (UD)

Having achieved CDX the dog now competes at the UD level where it must gain 3 qualifying scores of 170 points or more by completing: Seek Back (30pts), Directed Jumping (40pts), Scent Discrimination (45pts), Signal Exercise (30pts), Speak On Command or Food Refusal or Directed Retrieve (20pts), Group Examination (10pts), 7 minute Down Stay - Handler out of sight (25pts), Temperament Test (10pts).

Companion Dog Excellent (CDX)

Having achieved CD the dog now competes at the Open level where it must gain 3 qualifying scores of 170 points or more by completing: Heel free (30pts), Stand Free for Examination (20pts), Drop on Recall (30pts), Retrieve Dumbbell on Flat (20pts), Retrieve Dumbbell over Solid Jump (30pts), (a) Broad Jump or (b) Distance Control (20pts), 3 minute Sit Stay - Handler out of sight (25pts), 5 minute Down Stay - Handler out of sight (25pts).

Competition at the Novice level: the dog must gain 3 qualifying scores of 170 points or more by completing: Heel free (40pts), Stand Free for Examination (30pts), Recall (40pts), Retrieve on the Flat or Change of Position (30pts), 1 minute Sit Stay - Handler out of sight (30pts), 3 minute Down Stay (30pts).

Community Companion Dog (CCD)

Dog must gain 3 qualifying scores of 75 points or more by completing: Heel on Lead (30pts), Stand for Examination on Lead (10pts), Recall (20pts), 1 minute sit stay (20pts), 2 minute down stay (20pts).

Canine Good Citizen (CGC)

Although not officially recognised by the ANKC the Canine Good Citizen award is an AKC based award that is conducted in many countries around the world under licence. Their are 10 tests that must be completed successfully - Accepting a friendly stranger; Sitting politely for petting; Appearance and grooming; Walking on a loose lead; Walking through a crowd; Sit and Down on command and staying in place; Coming when called; Reaction to another dog; Reaction to distraction; and Supervised separation.
